Background

• Yearly well-child visits are recommended, yet many children do not receive well-child care as advised.
• This study estimated the association of parental preventive service receipt on their child’s well-child visits among patients seen in community health centers.

Useful Findings

• Children had a 6% greater rate of yearly well-child visits when their mother received preventive care compared to no preventive care.
• Children had a 7% greater rate of yearly well-child visits when their father received preventive care compared to no preventive care.
• Children had an 11% greater rate of yearly well-child visits when both parents received preventive care compared to neither receiving preventive care.

Bottom Line

• Findings indicate parent preventive care is associated with well-child visits and suggest focusing on whole family healthcare receipt to improve well-child visit rates.
